Busan appoints new heads of festival and market [ 2021.10.20 ]

[NewsJapan.net] Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has appointed Huh Moon-young, former programme director at the Cinematheque of the Busan Cinema Centre, as its new festival director and Oh Seok Geun, former Korean Film Council (KOFIC) chairperson as a new co-director of the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM).
Huh was also a Korean Cinema programmer at BIFF for five years from 2002, having previously been a journalist at leading local film magazine Cine21 and at JoongAng Monthly. He was previously the director and general manager of the Cinematheque Busan and the Busan Cinema Centre since 2005.
Huh stated: "I feel haevy-hearted to be appointed as the festival director at difficult times but, will overcome the difficulties with the chairperson, Lee Yong-kwan and the festival veterans.
"I want to think about ways to make it an event that feels familiar and closer to audiences as it used to be in the beginning."
Originally a filmmaker Oh Seok Geun, one of the BIFF founding members, was chairperson at KOFIC for last 3 years and is expected to activate the market using local and international network since ACFM has broaden to contents market that includes both film and content.
